Primary hemochromotosis (most common) due to genetic defect in GI tract which leads to build up of iron inside hepatocytes less likely secondary (result of iron overload due to blood transfusions) - In PRIMARY the pancrease usually has similar attentuation to the liver (spleen and marrow n ormal). In SECONDARY hemochromatosis caused by overwhelming iron levels in the reticuloendothelial system (RES) SPLEEN is hypointense due to deposition there (and bone marrow as well...).
Other HYPERattentuating liver diseases (besides iron overload) include Wilson's Disease (Copper Overload) or Medications (amiodarone or gold or MTX)
